From the WHS Student Handbook:
According to state law, high schools are required to hold school for a minimum of 990 hours and 180 days a year. Regular attendance for the entire school day by a student is a primary requisite for learning. We strongly discourage vacations or trips abroad when school is in session. These absences will not be considered excused absences.
Students may be absent up to four times per quarter without documentation. After four absences, documentation is required to prevent an attendance failure (F*) for the term unless extenuating circumstances exist.
Absences with documentation include:
- Absence validated by a doctor’s note provided documentation is submitted within one week of the absence to the student’s dean.
- A post-secondary (military visit, union interviews, etc.) interview or visitation pre-approved by the student’s dean.
- Legal obligations with documentation provided to the student’s dean.
- Religious holidays with a parent/guardian note provided to the student’s dean.
- Bereavement with a parent/guardian note provided to the student’s dean.
- Additional considerations for an absence with documentation will require prior approval of the principal.
